Fiber Nova was officially discontinued on February 11, 2017. For those curious, Fiber Nova was announced on September 3, 2016, on the third anniversary of Fiber OS. Fiber Nova was supposed to be a ‘cloud OS’ on Scratch with a variety of powerful tools to create incredible works—from making art with the Draw application to Composer, an app boasted to be “created with the help of pro musicians”. In part due to Scratch’s “Hour of Code” event disabling cloud features as well as team member inactivity and drama, an official announcement of disbandment was released on February 14, 2017. Despite Fiber Nova no longer being worked on, former Fiber Nova member Sunsetly released his own iterations of Fiber, as well as Techno-CAT releasing his own version, FiberX (which unsurprisingly caused drama). At its time of disbandment, Fiber Nova had eight official members, including herronjo, who would later create and release STiBaRC within that same year. With over 50 Fiber Beta testers, a small portion of the former community of Fiber would later migrate to STiBaRC. Even though Fiber Nova ultimately was not completed, it nevertheless impacted STiBaRC. Through years of niche obsessions and teenage drama, former Fiber team members and beta testers continue to use and help develop STiBaRC and its products.
